Dr Vikram Goel is a Queensland trained Psychiatrist and a Fellow of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). He has over 20 year’s experience within Queensland’s Public Mental Health Service and is now in a part-time role as a Senior Staff Specialist within the Queensland Forensic Mental Health system leading a multidisciplinary team at The Park – Centre for Mental Health Treatment and Research. He has been in part time private practice for over a decade initially at The Yeronga Clinic (Co-Founder) and now at Suro Health. He has previously worked at the Keith Payne Unit (named after Victoria Cross recipient Mr Keith Payne) at Greenslopes Private Hospital (exclusively a unit for veterans and serving members), offering both outpatient and inpatient treatment.
In addition, Dr Goel is also a Medical Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT), Medical Member, Psychiatric Assessment Tribunal, General Medical Assessment Tribunal and to the Composite Medical Assessment Tribunal, Office of Industrial Relations, Independent Medical Examiner (IME) Panel, Workcover Queensland and also conducts Court Examination Orders (CEOs) for the Mental Health Court in Queensland.
He has interests in Forensic (both civil and criminal), General Adult Clinical Psychiatry, Occupational Psychiatry and Military Psychiatry.
Dr Goel has completed a large volume of medico-legal reports (for DVA and other third parties such as insurers including Workcover Queensland, and employers including multinational organisations in the mining, gas, insurance, medical and the banking industry) addressing issues such as diagnosis of workplace injuries using DSM 5 diagnostic criteria; the mechanism of injury; whether the injury/s are work-related or if there are pre-existing condition/s; fitness for duty (suitability and capacity) to attend work in short or long term basis; risk issues; return to work plans; recommendations about their treatment and rehabilitation; prognosis; whether the injuries are stable, stationary or permanent, income protection and Total and Permanent Disability (TPD). He is familiar with the relevant DVA Acts (including MRCA, VEA, DRCA, SRCA), Guide to the Assessment of Rates of Veterans Pensions (GARP-DVA) and DVA Statement of Principles (SOPs) as well as the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act.
He has extensive experience in personal injury, assessment of disability and compensation claims.
He is able to undertake comprehensive assessments and endeavours to provide high-quality reports promptly. He offers swift appointments, often scheduled within a few days, and ensures that reports are forwarded within a couple of days after the assessment.
Dr Goel can also offer Specialist Psychiatrist Expert Insight reports including file/record reviews; case-conferencing with treatment providers and rehabilitation providers, and liaison with claims managers as required.
